June 21 - July 4, 2018 Tour of China and the Yangtze River, with an optional extension to Hong Kong
Our 2018 summer tour will cover the major highlights of China, featuring the Great Wall, the Forbidden City of
Beijing, Tiananmen Square, a five-day cruise of the Yangtze River, a visit to
the Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute in Chengdu, the Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors in Xi'an, then Shanghai and the biggest commercial street in China. Optional 2-day extension to

Day 1: Charter bus ride from DuBois and Clearfield, PA to Dulles International Airport, Washington DC. Over-night Flight to Beijing.
Day 2: Arrival in Beijing, orientation with tour director.
Day 3: Guided tour of Beijing, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, informational Peking Duck Dinner
Day 4: Visit the Great Wall of China, a Chinese Tea House, enjoy a Rickshaw Tour of the Hutong, then we divide the group to experience dinner with local families and see the true culture within their homes.
Day 5: Fly to Yichang and Board a Yangtze River Cruise Fly to Yichang and embark on a cruise of the Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia.
Day 6-8 River Cruise, with multiple stops, including Three Gorges Dam, native tribal visit, hanging coffins, sampan ride to Qutang Gorge and the Meng Liang Staircase, and either Fengdu or Wanzhou.
Day 9: Disembark from cruise in mountain city of Chongqing and visit the zoo and General Stilwell Museum. Transfer to Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan Province.
Day 10: Morning visit to Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute, and great opportunities to view giant
pandas. This is one of two places in the world where visitors can pay to hold a young panda. Afternoon flight to Xi'an, one of the oldest cities in China. Visit:
Day 11: Visit the Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors, with its 6,000 intricately modeled life-sized men and horses. Visit to Muslim Quarter and shopping area, known for its incredible selection of foods.
Day 12: Flight to Shanghai, walking tour of Nanjing-Lu, to visit the longest commercial street in China. Free time later in day.
Day 13: Guided sight-seeing of Shanghai, including Jade Buddha Temple and Walking Tour of Nanjing-Lu and the Bund, plus plenty of free time to finish any last-minute souvenir shopping.
Day 14: Flight home.
OR: 2 day optional extension to Hong Kong. $555 - $670, depending on number of people who take the extension. Price includes flights, 2 meals/day, hotels, tour director.

Our June-July 2017 adult/family tour will start in Quito Ecuador, followed by visit of the Galapagos Islands. We will spend several days visiting the islands of Baltra, Isabela, Santiago, and Santa Cruz. We'll see marine iguanas, giant land iguanas, blue-footed boobies (a sea bird), penguins, and swim with giant sea turtles, dolphins and sea lions. Our naturalist guides will explain the various wildlife and vegetation, many species of which can be found no where else in the world.
From the Galapagos we fly to Peru and visit the ancient city of Cuzco, capital of the Incan civilization for 3,000 years. Located over 11,000 feet high up in the Peruvian Andes, Cuzco can literally take your breath away. Visit the local markets and enjoy bartering with the natives for their hand-made crafts, jewelry and clothing. Take the train to the village of Agua Caliente to visit Machu Picchu, a complete Incan village established in the 1400's, then abandoned to be covered over by vegetation and not discovered until Hiram Bingham, Yale professor, uncovered the city in 1911.
Return by train to Cuzco, then fly home from Lima.

Day 1 Monday June 26, 2017 Charter tour bus from Clearfield and DuBois PA to Dulles International Airport near Washington DC. Evening arrival in Quito, capital city of Ecuador.
Day 2 Tues. June 27 Site-seeing tour of colonial Quito, then visit the Imbabura Volcano before journeying on to Otavalo and its handicraft market. Final stop of the day is Cotacach, known for its leather goods.
Day 3 Wed. June 28 Fly from Quito to Baltra Island in the Galapagos. Short transfer by boat to Island of Santa Cruz. There we visit the Charles Darwin Foundation Research Station.
Day 4-6 Thur, June 29 - Sat. July 1 We will visit a different island each day for excursions that include nature walks, snorkeling, and much more! Islands will include San Christobal, Isabela, and North Seymour. Among the various species we will see are iguanas, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and giant tortoises. Specific details closer to tour date.
Day 7 Sun. July 2 Final day to explore the Galapagos, then short flight back to Quito.
Day 8 Mon. July 3 Travel 16 miles from Quito to visit Mitad del Mundo - "Center of the Earth", where you can stand with one foot in each of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Climb to the top of the monument for a beautiful view of the surrounding area, and visit the Ethnological Museum, before your flight to Lima, Peru.
Day 9 Tues. July 4 After breakfast in Lima, we fly to Cuzco, capital of the Incan Empire for over 3,000 years. Visit a local
orphanage, then free time to visit the handicraft markets, or Inca Museum. You will be at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, so take it easy today!
Day 10 Wed. July 5 Travel comfortably by train through the Sacred Valley to the small town of Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu. We'll divide up into small buses which will take us to the top of the ancient Incan civilization, where we will meet our local guides. The guides will spend a few hours showing us various buildings and explaining what is known about the Incans, then you will have some free time to explore before returning down by bus to Aquas Calientes for the night.
Day 11 Thur. July 6 Spend the morning exploring Aquas Calientes before returning to Cuzco by train. Your tour director will give you suggestions for how to spend your evening in Cuzco.
Day 12 Fri. July 7. Guided sight-seeing of the Sacred Valley, including Ollantaytambo and Pisac with its market.
Day 13 Sat. July 8 Transfer to airport for flight to Lima, then international flight home to Dulles. We will most likely return back to
DuBois/Clearfield on Sunday, July 9.
